Kindergarten Art Work

Kindergartener's are now learning about shapes.  They made a black glue line to create lots of shapes for the first art lesson and now they are using markers to color in the shapes.  They look awesome.

It Has Begun!

We are rolling.  Our school opened this year to a new direction.  We are now a Leadership School.  We learn and model the 7 habits of Happy Students.

So far, so good.  Our first art project will be to make a "Talking Stick".  I'll enter photos and directions when we start.

School Starts soon!

I'm so excited to begin school.  The staff has so much in store for the students this year.  It's a new year, with new goals, new direction...... and it's exciting.  My room is about ready and it looks really clean.  That won't last long.  But Art Rooms weren't meant to stay clean.

This is where creativity bursts and explodes all over my room.

New Lesson Plans for school

Well, I've begun to search for new lessons to replace some of my older ones in my school.  I've gotten some wonderful ideas from my Italy vacation and others ideas by searching the web.  If you have any tried and true ideas, please leave a comment or a website.

Just returned from Italy

I had an amazing trip to Italy, Greece, & Turkey.  The artwork was breath taking.  Here is a photo of me.  I'm looking at a pastel sidewalk artwork.  Isn't it wonderful?  They were all over Florence, Italy

Summer Time

Well, my art room is packed up and my storage room is clean.  It took me about a week.  Now we wait and then start over again in August.

In the meantime, go out and draw, color, or do leaf rubbings.  Visit a museum, go visit a trade shop (glass blowing, pottery painting, beading).  Go to a Zoo or Park and sketch.
Just have fun and day dream!

More shirts

Tie Dye shirts

A tradition for Worthington Estates is creating tie dye t-shirts for every grade level.  It's a fabulous and fun project.  We use procion professional art dye and have had great results when used on 100% cotton shirts.

The entire school will were them on our Fabulous Fun Day, this Wednesday.

Tie Dye Week is Over

Tie Dye is over.  All 500 students enjoyed squirting colored dye on their shirts.  So far, the shirts have looked fabulous.  I'll take some photos of them and post them soon.  It's fairly simple, just soak the cotton shirts in PH + for 15 minutes then wring out the shirts and twist.   Squirt on dye (dye, water, & urea).  Leave in a zip lock bag for 24 hours, then wash in a washing machine and dryer (no soap, no softener).  They turn out great.  Chec out:  http://www.dharmatrading.com/tie-dye/instructions.html

Spring Flowers

This is a WES tradition.  The First Grade students create clay flower kabobs.  They love this project.  It's a beautiful project and it takes a long time.  Making clay beads, clay leaves, clay flowers and putting it all together in a pot

Art Show with KidsArt Fairs

We had a fabulous time at the Art Show on Thursday.  Many families from the Worthington Estates School Community attended.  The Art work was wonderful and the performers were outstanding.  Thank you to all who attended.  And a special thank you to all of my volunteers, who made the show outstanding.  (photos will follow soon)

Congratulations

The 5th and 6th grade musical was awesome.  The kids worked hard and performed so well.  Thank you  Mrs.Wilson for directing the talents of our students.  Every year you out-do yourself - can't wait for next year's performance.  Way to go kids!

Friday

Hi

While you all were having the day off, I put in my time at school organizing, creating, and putting up artwork.  I'm about finished with a project for Mrs. Wilson - back of a '57 chevy.  She's using it in the Musical.  I then went to work on the 5th grade murals and got 2 of them put together and up in the Phys. Ed/Music hallway.  I also put finished sculptures in the Library.

Olympics not Quite Over

Yes, the Olympics in Vancouver has come to an end but the collaboration of Olympic themed projects are still being played out at WES.  The Related Arts are completing projects that reflect the Olympics - history, traditions, and spirit.  Stop by the school and see what's up in the hallways.  And don't forget to stop by the Library to see the awesome 6th grade Olympic Athlete Sculptures.

Art Show at the MAC

Hi everyone

It's been a busy week in the WES Art Room.  I took over about 13 pieces of artwork to McConnell's Art Center for a new Art Show.  The show showcases artwork of all the Elementary Schools in Worthington.  The exhibit begins March 5th and continues through the end of March.  I hope you get a chance to view our artwork and those of other schools.
